I have been taking photographs for a very long time now.

I remember being given a Kodak box camera that used 110 roll film at the age of around twelve. I still have images from this camera which bring back memories how it all began.

I started working in the construction industry and borrowed a Yashika TL Electro from a friend, this was a great camera to take photos with. I used it on various sites to record progress and every time I picked it up wished I was a photographer and not a Quantity Surveyor. Soon it had to be given back to my friend and I eventually bought a Zenit E which lasted me through my teens. This particular time I was studying for exams and so never used it as much as I wanted to. Into my early thirties and I decided to take up photography as a serious hobby. So I joined a local camera club (Pyle & Porthcawl Photographic Society), here I found I was extremely successful winning Photographer of the Year at my first attempt and not losing the title while I was a member there. As well as this title I won various other competitions on a regular basis. I had images accepted for the Welsh Salon of Photography as well as the Welsh International Salon. I joined a stronger club to test my skills in competition, (Neath & District Photographic Society) they had quite a lot of members achieving success at national and international levels. Here the competition was much stiffer however, I won Photographer of the Year first time of asking and held onto the title for five years in a row.

Around this time I was awarded Highest average entry for the Welsh International Salon, which I was very proud of.

As well as the club scene I was busy entering competitions in Magazines and was positioned third in Practical Photography, second in Photo Answers as well as having images published along the way. This boosted my confidence and when asked to photograph my friends wedding, I kept at the opportunity despite being a little apprehensive! That done, Sue and I took on loads of weddings with great success and were always proud of our results and feedback.
